Longtime Second Baptist Member Nellie Spence Celebrates 90 Years.

Nellie Spence came from Marianna, Florida to Jackson, Michigan in 1957 and immediately joined Second Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. A.P. Williams. “It’s the only church I’ve ever been a member of” said Nellie. “It must be all right, I’ve been here 63 years!” “Sister Spence has been nothing but a blessing to our church”, commented Rev. Darius Williams, the current pastor at Second Baptist. “She has been here for over 50 years serving as a nurse or an usher, continuing in the spirit of hospitality and always shows up when we need her, and the church is thankful for her.”

Even at 90, Sister Nellie Spence is strong and vibrant. When asked her secret to longevity and maintaining a youthful, vivacious look, Nellie comments, “I have lived a clean life and accepted Christ at a young age and never looked back.”
