Lumen Christi State Champs-defeat Menominee 34-30

The Lumen Christi Titans had to battle for 40 minutes to beat Menominee for the Division 7 State Championship on Sunday November 26th at Ford Field. The Titans took a 34-30 lead into the final minute of play to hold off a Menominee offense that had found success for much of the game. Lumen Christi freshman Lundon Hampton sacked Menominee quarterback Trevor Theuerkauf as he scrambled on 4th down, desperately looking for a receiver. The Titans offense was able to take a knee to run out the clock.

The victory was Coach Herb Brogan’s 11th State Championship in his 44 years of coaching at Lumen Christi. “It feels great”, commented Brogan. “Even though we didn’t play our best ball game, a lot of that had to do with Menominee and the way  they played. We made some big plays when we needed to on both sides of the ball.”
The Titans trailed  14-0 in the first quarter, as Menominee moved the ball on offense, taking a 7-0 lead and capitalized on a Christi fumble on a punt to go up 14-0. “We didn’t panic”, said Brogan. “We’ve been behind before and most importantly, you’ve got to have confidence in your kids that they are going to make plays and they did that.”
Christi made plays as junior running back Kadale Williams scored twice, knotting the score at 14 at intermission.
In the second half the lead went back and forth. Trailing 30-27 with less than 4 minutes to play, on 4th  and 4, the Titans scored on a 25 yard  pass from Timmy Crowley to Gabe King to go ahead for good.
