Pastor Lee Hampton Receives Jackson College MLK Medal of Service

Pastor Lee Hampton recipient of the 2025 Jackson College MLK Medal of Service Award, “My father, the late Rev. Frank Hampton, Jr.,also received this award and my mother, Beatrice Hampton’s name should have been engraved on it as well for the sacrifices she made. I also thank my wife Melinda for her sacrifices from the college to the church. Her name belongs on this award too.”

On January 18, 2025, Jackson College held its annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Dinner in which the evening is culminated by the presentation of the Martin Luther King Medal of Service Award. Pastor Lee Hampton was the 2025 recipient.

Keynote speaker Antonio Bass, had the audience’s complete attention, as he delivered a heart felt message on the value of being resilient. Bass, one of Jackson’s all-time greatest athletes, saw his University of Michigan football career cut short due to a catastrophic knee injury.

The evening, moderated by Antoine Breedlove, included presentations by the Men of Merit and Sisters of Strength, and a soul stirring Dr. King portrayal by Justice Hampton.

“The Jackson College Board of Trustees and I were so delighted to be able to recognize Lee Hampton, not only because the impact he made at Jackson College, ad our former Chief Diversity Officer, but also for his steadfast leadership in the Jackson Community, as well as a spiritual leader,” said Jackson College President Dan Phelan. “Pastor Lee Hampton is an obvious choice for the Board’s King Leadership Award because of who he is as a person; but also of who is as a husband, parent, colleague, and friend; where he chooses to stand in difficulty; and for his embodiment of who Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. called us all to be. Special thanks to Kelly Crum from Jackson Public Schools for nominating Lee for this recognition, as well as to Antoine Breedlove and the entire team of Jackson College for making this year’s MLK Annual Awards Dinner such a great success.”
